Travel Alert France

My dad won't let me go on a trip to italy france and greece bcuzzzz...?
he isnt letting me go for a trip for the foreign exchange group people to people. its going to france italy and greece. hes not letting me go bcuz he thinks im going to die in paris cuz of the recent travel alerts. i think its crazy and hes delusional but hes too stubborn. i really wanna go. but hes not letting me cuz of this stupid alert. the alert ends on jan 31 and we leave in july and he still wont let me go. how can i convince that the alert is nothing to be worried about? and that i can still go?
That's insane that he won't let you go for those reasons.
1.The first thing you could argue is that rioting, is literally, part of french culture and identity. It is very NORMAL occurance in France, and happens every few years, ever since the time of the french revolution. Funny? Yes. True? Yes! Due to a cushy government work plan, people in France have some extra time on their hands, and due to that same plan, some people in France don't have a job at all. This means everyone has time to riot about whatever the topic of the day is. It's normal. It doesn't affect tourism. Worst case scenario, they shut down a metro stop. Walk 5 minutes to the next stop. problem solved.
2.You mention your dad being delusional. This may be true. People who watch too much TV (specifically stellar networks such as FOX news) develop a distorted view of the world, and think of it as a place full of millions of horrible people who are out to get you. This is not what the world is like. People in Paris, France, and most other places, are really not that interested in doing you any harm. The world is a decent place! This is not to say they won't be rude to you because you don't speak french, or that someone won't try to pick your pocket, but hey, learn a couple phrases, and buy a money belt! Tell him to look up Gerbner's Cultivation Theory, and he will have a better understanding of what all the TV is doing to his brain!
3. France is a very safe place. They take their national security VERY seriously (almost too seriously, but I'm sure you Dad is OK with that.) They LOVE Paris. They would be beyond devestated if ANYTHING ever happened to it. Paris is well protected. There are guards at the eiffel tower, and other tourist attractions, with automatic machine guns. They are trying to keep you safe, and they will keep you safe.
THE ALERT IS NOTHING TO BE WORRIED ABOUT. Promise your Dad you well stay in well lit, well established, touristy areas with lots of people. Promise him you will travel in groups and you will stay on the tour itinerary. It's sad that you have to make these promises, but this will probably make him feel better.
There's a whole world out there waiting to be experienced. Be not afraid, and good luck!
