Travel Makeup Case
Taking 6MP/immunomodulators...plastic bubble?
So people taking immuno-suppressive medications basically have to live in a plastic bubble, right? If these meds completely shut down the immune system, how can one travel, be a doctor, work with animals, be an actress/model/TV journalist (makeup artists use their own makeup..)etc.?! There's germs and risk of infection EVERYWHERE, aside from a plastic bubble!!? :/
I was planning to go visit my sister in CA next week, but I'm supposed to start 6MP (for a relatively mild/moderate case of IBD)...but, now I can't right? Infections/exposure on the plane :/
Does the immune system level off after starting it, like will it come back?

You should talk to your Dr. if you're concerned, but I really don't think you have too much to worry about. Crohn's disease, and have taken immunosuppressants/immunomodulators (Immuran and Remicade). They DO weaken your immune system, hence helping with the auto-immune conditions. Because of this, you're more susceptible to infections, and yeah, more likely to catch colds and stuff.
You DO need to keep an eye on your health, try to limit your exposure to ill people, and watch for signs of infection. But you don't need to stop living your life. People on those meds go to work, school, travel, etc. every day. The chances of developing a serious or life-threatening condition are slightly greater than someone NOT on the meds, but they aren't that high either.
You have to remember, your Dr. prescribed the meds because he/she thought the benefit to you would out-weigh the risks associated with the drug. If everyone who took them got really sick or died, the FDA wouldn't allow them to be used as treatments.
