Travel Store Sacramento Ca
Can anybody recommend any "gluten/allergy aware" restaurants in the area of Sacramento, CA ?
I found the Whole Foods in Sacramento, but are there any other food or grocery stores which carry specialty products? I'll be visiting Sacto from Jan 17 through 22. I know there is an Outback Restaurant, but I like to eat at local places when I travel, so any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
California in general is one of the best places to go when food allergies are a concern, just because it's a very progressive place when it comes to food choices. In Sacramento in particular, there is a natural foods coop store on Alhambra (can't remember the cross street, it's right on the corner...I wanna say around M St). Sunrise Natural Foods is also a chain grocery in the area. Whole Foods has by far the best selection, but the others are good alternatives.
As far as restaurants go, most restaurants in the area are very good about listing potential food allergy hazards--the more local (and recent) they are, the more likely they'll have that info. Some local chains that might be good include the Elephant Bar and Brookfields, and Bella Bru.
Some of my personal favorites (though I don't have food allergies, so I can't comment on that aspect--it's just darn tasty food) include the Beachhut Deli, Wonderful Chinese Food, Jamba Juice, and I'm pretty sure there's not a bad Thai or sushi place in Sacramento. Oh, and for the best burger you've ever had, stop at an In-N-Out (order it Protein Style if you have issues with bread)
