Travel Swing Baby
Do I need both a baby swing AND a bouncy seat?
I'm trying to figure out what I need, 37 wks with my first and never taken care of an infant before (just kids 3 & up). I already got a swing that has lots of features, but do I need a bouncy seat too? Or should I just use the infant seat from the traveling system that snaps out of the stroller? It's one of those that snap into the carseat or the stroller. Where do you put your newborn baby while you're taking a shower or using the toilet??
Is there such a thing as a LIST of everything I need before baby comes home?
I had both. My son didn't want anything to do with the bouncy seat in the beginning - he definitely preferred the swing. However, there came a time where he no longer wanted to use the swing and preferred the bouncy seat. I found both invaluable - when he was happy in either the swing or the seat, it allowed me some free time to get things done (like take a shower)! Our master bath is very large, so I had more than enough room for him to hang out in either the swing or seat - and it made me feel a little more at ease because I could keep my eye on him.
Another thing that helped was a pack and play (playpen). My son liked his naps when he was a baby, but didn't like being alone in the crib in his room. I found that he would take more naps through the day if I kept him in the pack and play (in the bassinet portion). I think he just liked to be part of the action going on in the house, and it got him used to sleeping with a little noise.
If you go to register at Babies R Us, they will give you a list of everything most people need. There's a lot of unnecessary items on the list, but they account for everything you could possibly think of. You just need to go through the list and decide what is practical for you.
