Buying a car seat in the US, live in Canada- read on!?
I read that it is illegal to buy a car seat in the US and to use it in Canada because the standards are different, we want to buy a travel system made by Safety 1st, the stroller is fine but the car seat isn't approved, but really, what are the chances of being pulled over etc and getting a fine, isn't the baby only in the infant carrier for maybe 6 months? It's so dumb, Safety 1st makes car seats for canada so I don't see what the big deal is. It's a safe car seat and everything of course, we'd never get it if it wasn't.... So what's the big deal? If we don't get pulled over then nobody would ever know... and if we did happen to get pulled over the worst is we'd have to buy a new one, and just say we didn't know!?

My only thought is that when you leave the hospital (at least in Victoria, BC), you have to bring the infant carrier in and they check it out and make sure the strap are adjusted correctly... I think they actually look for the model number and compare it to something... so you might get caught there?
You could always borrow a Canadian infant carrier from a friend, just to leave the hospital? I would go ahead with the American one.
